Akala Launches Direct to Consumer Sustainable Fashion Brand in Seattle
Akala is an inclusive, sustainable fashion brand for women, designed in Seattle and made in the USA. The brand held a virtual launch party in Seattle last weekend to showcase its thoughtfully designed, eco-conscious collection featuring sustainable fabrics and recycled trims.
Founder, Ashley Klein, studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Purdue University before dreaming up a clothing line that was inclusive in size (XXS-XXL), sustainable for the environment, and attainable in price point.
The debut collection features wrap tops, reversible sweaters, jumpsuits, wide-leg pants, and sweater dresses. Akala has focused its core collection on natural fibers that are good for the planet including biodegradable Tencel™ Lyocell, and Cupro, which is regenerated cellulose from cotton waste. The trims from the collection are also sustainably-minded including recycled zippers and elastic, plus Corozo buttons, produced from the seeds of Tagua Palm trees. The entire collection is designed in Seattle and ethically-produced in Los Angeles, California.
