There’s something new to discover around every turn and the holiday season provides the perfect occasion to discover the quaint shopping scene that lies just outside the city. Instead of crowded, big box stores, shoppers up north will find themselves immersed in charming independent shops that specialize in products chosen with neighborhood customers in mind. In addition to small-batch, handmade goods featuring locally-sourced ingredients and materials, you’ll also find friendly faces who are eager to help find exactly what you need, for everyone on your list. These shop owners often work open to close, unboxing, organizing, merchandising, and lovingly packaging each individual order with pride.

This year, we partnered with north-end shopping expert Melody Todd of Honest Chatter to round up 9 amazing “North of Seattle” places you can shop locally this holiday season.

STANWOOD & CAMANO ISLAND

Known for its small-town charm and easy island feel, Stanwood and Camano Island offer cozy coffee shops, farm fresh produce markets, handmade goods and family-owned businesses that have been expanding for decades.

Camano Commons Marketplace is a joint venture between local businesses and artists that features a gift shop, cafe, and bakery. Just south of Stanwood, you’ll find Arlington, a quaint historical town situated at the foothills of the Cascades.
