K Ba-Nana announces Women in Business event

Korean beauty pop-up K Ba-Nana will host a special Women in Business event on Sunday, November 4th featuring a range of inspiring and influential women in the community. Speakers include K Ba-Nana founder Liz Kang Yates, Nordstrom buyer Jillian Peterson, Sweet & Power series creator Carolyn Yuen Marino, and Marabou Design founder Brandy Brown. The conversation, moderated by Sydney Mintle of Gossip & Glamour, will cover a variety of topics including work/life balance, mentorship, career building, and boss babe strategies for success. Speaker Bios:

Jillian Peterson has been the Multi-channel Buyer of YC Casual (formerly BP Department) for two years. Jillian started with Nordstrom in 2005 as a salesperson in BP Shoes at Michigan Avenue where she worked her way through college. After graduation, she was the Department Manager of the Michigan Avenue Women’s shoe floor. Jillian moved to Seattle to become Assistant Buyer and later a N.com buyer for Comfort Women’s shoes. As a part of that team, she developed a passion for product and delivered what the customer wanted. In 2013, Jillian was promoted to the MC Buyer in BP Dresses and Undercover where she executed strategy and vision for the floor and online. Jillian is known for her passion for people and product and her high expectations. Jillian graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Communications.  

Liz Kang Yates was raised in Washington where she graduated from UW Foster School of Business.  From there, she started off her career in banking for 4 years and then took a leap to the merchandising world to become an assistant buyer for Zumiez where she worked her way up as Buying Manager.  She also worked for adidas as  Global Product Manager and US merchandiser for almost 3 years and currently manages sales for key Vans Footwear accounts. In August 2018, she followed her passion for Korean Beauty and opened up a pop up shop in the U-Village called K Ba-Nana to feature all of her favorite beauty and skincare products from Korea. Liz is also mom to very a sweet baby boy who constantly keeps her on her toes. 

Carolyn Yuen Marino is a high school English teacher and personal style blogger at HeyPrettyThing.com. This year, she created and wrote Sweet & Power, a comedy-drama web series that follows the journey of four Asian-American millennial women as they navigate their 20s. The show covers a variety of topics including career, cultural identity, friendships, and sexuality. Carolyn was born in Hong Kong, and she speaks three dialects of Chinese (Shanghainese, Mandarin, and Cantonese). Currently, she lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband.

Brandy Brown is the Founder & Creative Director of Marabou Design, an innovative design studio located in the beautiful pacific northwest. Specializing in creative styling, editorial and graphic design, she describes her aesthetic as both playful & smart. Brandy also blogs for noted sites, and has been featured in several magazines such as Domino, Martha Stewart Living, Essence, InStyle and more! Brandy enjoys sharing tips and tutorials for the modern family & their extraordinary friends.
