Boma Jewelry Releases 2021 Sustainability Report
To kick off Earth Month, Boma Jewelry has released a comprehensive sustainability report that outlines the work the company is doing to reach important social impact and sustainability goals. The 2021 report includes an overview of the brand’s commitment to continuous improvement on environmental and social responsibility projects and details the impact of those efforts to date.
This year the brand will celebrate 40 years in business as a family-owned company committed to the triple bottom line: people, planet, and prosperity. This mindset has helped the brand use fashion as a force for good by structuring its business operations in a way that has a positive long-term impact on people and the planet.
As a vertical company, Boma leverages its unique resources throughout the supply chain to protect and invest in material resources, build strong communities for its artisans through fair wages and long-term employment opportunities, and provide customers with high-quality products that are ethically made with sustainability in mind.
Highlights from the report:
In 2021, the Boma factory will go solar. Switching the Bangkok factory to solar energy is forecasted to reduce CO2 emissions by 436.80 metric tons in the first year.
To date, Boma Jewelry customers have contributed to 280,000 lbs. of CO2 offsets using Carbonclick at check-out. 18% of Boma customers choose to offset the carbon of their purchase at check-out.
In 2020, Boma switched to sustainable packaging for all online purchases including 100% recycled, FSC certified paper with soy-based inks.
Last fall, Boma launched its first BIPOC grant program for emerging Black jewelry designers with a total grant value of $7,500.
In December 2020, Boma Jewelry partnered with The Cura Co. to release a ‘This Matters’ gender-inclusive, sustainable jewelry collection to support the Black College Matters fund by Save Your VI, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocacy for Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. 100% of the proceeds from the collection were donated by both brands to support the college education funds of BIPOC activists Delanie Seals and Izzy Miller.
In 2021, Boma has implemented a policy to expand its work with suppliers, consultants, and companies from a diverse range of backgrounds including minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and disability-owned businesses that reflect the diversity of the communities Boma serves.
Boma is committed to being net-zero by 2030 and has joined a group of over 900 companies that are a part of the B Corp Climate Collective.
