Spring 2016: The final season for Glittersweet
After six years in business producing a full range of vinyl handbags in Seattle, Glittersweet has announced plans to close up shop. Following a progressive sale over the next few weeks to liquidate inventory, Glittersweet owner Laura Silverstein will shift her focus to her other family business, Phinney Books in Seattle.
“I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot and have enjoyed the challenges involved in the manufacturing process,” says Laura, reflecting on her time managing production of the bags in Seattle. She joined Seattle MADE last year to strengthen her relationships with other local producers and developed a deep appreciation for businesses dedicated to producing goods locally. “The best parts of being in business have been getting to know my customers, meeting fellow business owners, and seeing my bags on the street.”
Over the years, Glittersweet bags have been featured by many local publications including the Seattle Times, Where magazine, Seattle Metropolitan magazine and more. A blue and green Seattle Colors collection was also featured by Evening Magazine in 2015 just prior to the Super Bowl.
As a small business manufacturing locally, Glittersweet always found it a challenge to meet minimum order quantities set by the factory. With tight wholesale margins and without the desire to take production overseas, Laura concluded that it was time to move on to new projects and adventures. “It’s been a great run,” says Laura, who remembers sewing her first Glittersweet bag in the basement of her home.
To close out our inventory, Glittersweet will launch a progressive sale online at www.glittersweet.com and at Phinney Books starting on January 19th. Popular styles are nearly sold-out, so fans of the brand are encouraged to buy their favorite bags before they’re gone. All sales will be final.
“We know how long our bags last,” says Laura, “so I still expect to see people carrying them for years to come!”
