Press Release: Local Fashion, Locally Made
Seattle apparel manufacturers and vendors are coming together to celebrate the revival of the local sewn goods industry. Fashion Evolution is a fundraiser and kickoff event for Seattle Sewn, a collaborative initiative of two nonprofits, Seattle Made and Muses, and will be held Tuesday, June 6 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at The Riveter on Capitol Hill.
Demand for “Made in the USA” apparel paired with the growing ethical fashion movement has created an increased need for qualified industrial workers. As garment production has in recent years been largely off-shored, local fashion designers and manufacturers have struggled to find qualified sewers. To address these needs, Seattle Made (a program of Seattle Good Business Network) has partnered with Muses, an apparel production training house dedicated to serving immigrant and refugee communities, to create Seattle Sewn.
Fashion Evolution will raise awareness and funds for Seattle Sewn’s efforts to revitalize the industry through training, education and coalition building. The event will feature a shop-for-a- cause marketplace including Filson, Silvae, Prairie Underground, Freeman, Nube 9, and others. Each of these vendors has made a commitment to Seattle manufacturing, and all proceeds from the event will support the program. This evening will also include a silent auction, appetizers by Madres Kitchen, signature cocktails, local beer, wine and more.
“Seattle Sewn is weaving together a coalition of industry players from fashion to manufacturing, education, training, and others. We are working to leverage our city’s collective resources around a shared vision to move the industry forward. Fashion Evolution will harness the energy that we see coming together around ethical local production while celebrating Seattle’s innovative and independent spirit,” said Erin Nelson, Executive Director of Seattle Good Business Network and Seattle Made.
Tickets are $50 and are available at Stranger Tickets. The event, co-produced with Gossip & Glamour, will be held at The Riveter at 1517 12th Ave on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, June 6 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.

About Seattle Sewn
Two years ago, the small and dedicated teams at Muses and Seattle Made set out with a vision to create more connections, jobs, and manufacturing capacity in Seattle's sewn-good industry, eager to learn as much as possible about the industry's challenges and opportunties for innovation and collaboration. Since that time, they've trained over 60 students - including some as paid interns in advanced sewing. They have also convened hundreds of industry stakeholders through workshops, focus groups, and roundtable meetings, creating the beginnings of a coalition that can start to advocate for the industry.
Seattle Sewn Mission Statement
Seattle Sewn is a division of Seattle Made under the Seattle Good Business Network, created to help support a diverse local sewn-goods economy, creating the conditions for job creation and meaningful employment, increased local manufacturing capacity, and industry collaboration.
